DeVry is fine choice. They are a nationally recognized school. I've worked for 2 very very large global software companies whose names you would know. Both hired developers from DeVry.

Right out of school, with that degree, you could get a job as a software developer / software engineer / programmer / programmer analyst. At the entry level the are all the same job. Later in your career you could pursue opportunites as a software acrhitect, team leader, project manager, etc.

Software developement is a GREAT avenue to pursue. There are few other jobs in America where you can work 9 to 5 and potentially earn $100K+ with just a bachelors degree. It is interesting and challenging. Yes, there are definitely $100k+ jobs if you are talented, keep learning and bring a lot of experience to the table.

The degree simply gives you the ability to get your foot in the door. And that's all you need. Once you hit the job market very very few employers care what degree you have or what school you earned it at. If you do well in school & learn your stuff you'll have no issues finding a job.

It is ALL about the skill set & experience. I cannot stress that enough.

You can expect to graduate with a starting salary averaging $35 to $50k depending on location, job market & other knowledge you bring. For example, my current employer specializes in building software for the pharmaceutical sales industry. You have sales experience whihc means you have special experience in some given market. you may or may not be able to leverage the knowledge in your software career.

You've seleted a good program at a good school. Feel free to email / IM if you have more specific questions. Good luck!

1st. Is Devry recognized by most employers?
Yes
2nd. What type of jobs/pay would i be able to get into with this specialty?
Web Developers and Website Administrators and possibly DBA's Database Administrators ...

Look if you wanna spend money go to Devry by all means, but you can get the same education else where for cheaper. Just look around and make sure the school have what you want and what you need. There's no real need to go out spending big bucks on Devry when some community college's offer the same exact courses.
;-)
After all Devry offers Associates Degrees just like your community colleges do. Or just go to a cheap 4 year if you want a BS in it or higher.

Hands down no. A technical school has no weight when it comes to employment. Sometimes, it is useful as an addition to an already existing degree but that is all.

Many employers want to know that you have completed something. A 2 year asociates degree will have more weight because the employer knows you spent more time and effort to obtain that degree. Especially since it's from an ACCREDITED college.

Many employers won't accept a person without a four year degree.

You might have to be careful with Devry since you may not get into a university, or at least your Devry education won't apply and you have to start over.

I don't have a problem with it, but I've had employers that refuse to hire anyone with a 2-year degree from a technical school or with an AAS (Associates of Applied Science).

Considering I have never heard of Devry, and having asked several others in the IT admin busines and neither have they, I would say it's not much use.

Yes Devry is recognized, but it may not be put on the same level as going to a state college or university, but it is a lot better than a 2-year or junior college. Also, Devry as career placement assistance, and one thing they won't tell you is that when you graduate with no experience, you are considered junior level in the real world... Expect to make no more than 35-40K. With experience and career placement assistance with great grades and references you can start out at 60K, and get raises with good benefits if you work for a good company.

You can do tech support, web programming, web systems analyst, software support. and development.
