Are web development skills any good to a person looking to get into networking? or vice versa?

Skills such as XHTML, javascript, java, .NET, ASP.NET, etc…

I am trying to decide if I should attend school for web development or if I should get a degree in networking, and if mixing up the trades a little would be beneficial.

Example 1 would be a 2 year networking degree with some web development skills.

Example 2 would be a 2 year web developing degree with a CCNA and/or MSCE certification.

To some extent yes. However, web development skills are essentially application development skills, and network programming skills are core development skills. Having an insight into networking will definitely help help a web developer. The converse is not necessarily true. Protocol development, for example, is a complete back-end job, and doesn’t need any web-development skills whatsoever.
